STINGRAYS SWIMMING

PRACTICE GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

*NOTE: Practice groups are determined by the coaches after an evaluation. If you have questions about your swimmer's group, please contact your coach.

LAPS is the foundation and entry-level to our program. At this level the swimmers learn the basics of balance, kicking, stroke mechanics for all 4 strokes, swimming terminology, meet formats, sportsmanship, and the elemental grammar of swimming. All LAPS participants need to be able to swim a length of the pool Freestyle and Backstroke before placement into the program.                   

LAPS ELEMENTARY:    are our youngest age swimmers.

                                    Target ages: 7-11 years old. Swim 1-3x per week @ 45-60 min per practice.

LAPS MIDDLE SCHOOL: are our middle school swimmers.

                                    Target ages: 11-14 years old. Swim 2-4x per week @ 60-75 min per practice.

AGE GROUP is the second tier of our Team. This group is primarily Middle School-aged kids who have a basic background in swimming. They will expand on the basics and begin to apply, through more practices per week and increased swimming time, their skills. Racing skills through frequent meets, competition as a measure of success and learning excellent training habits mark the Age Group's development. All-Age Groupers need to be able to swim a length of the pool of each of the 4 strokes before entering this level.

Target ages: 10-14 years old. Swim 4x per week @75-90mins per practice with an additional 30 mins of dryland.

The 3 Age Group Standards: 1. Be Respectful. 2. Be Kind. 3. Always Have Intention. 

YOUTH is the top tier of our Middle School-aged kids. Aside from knowing all 4 of the competitive strokes, the athletes in the Youth program have a background of at least 2 full years of swimming, including meets. This group focuses on preparation for the Senior program and high-end competition at the State, Region, and possibly National level through increased training volume and race-specific skills. All Youth swimmers will have a background of at least 2 full years of competitive swimming before entering the Youth group.

Target ages: 11-14 years old. Swim daily, except Sunday, @105- 120mins per practice with an additional 30 mins of dryland.

SENIOR: Senior swimmers are a combination of those who have recently moved out of the Youth group and are headed in the direction of the Future/National groups and they are also those who are committed to daily swimming but are not yet ready for the Future/National groups. Target ages: High School.  Swim 5-6x per week @ 105-120 per practice with additional dryland.

FUTURES: Futures swimmers are athletes who have accepted a training regimen that is daily. They must also meet the required training group criteria & approval of the Head Coach. TARGET AGES: High School. PRACTICES per week: 7+ practices.

NATIONAL: This is the top of our program. The National swimmers are athletes that meet the required training group criteria & are within a percentage of the USA Swimming Junior National LC time standard. This group is by invitation only from the Head Coach. TARGET AGES: High School. PRACTICES per week: 8+ practices.
